Bill’s Story

In nearly every modern family, all over the world, there is a person that is always grumpy and is incredibly hard to please. I am sure you can imagine whom I am referring to.

Now subject that person to three very serious car accidents within a ten-month period and when the fog clears, you would have a picture of me, and let me assure you, it was not a pretty one.

After countless visits with the doctors, multiple surgical procedures on the spinal cord and buckets of pain killers to take care of your pains, you gain a whole array of new ones. And I was no different, as the time went by, I developed a new one, the pain in the right hip.

It become of those pains that never goes away, always strong, always burning and always ready for action. I couldn’t sit for too long because it aggravated the sciatica nerve, I couldn’t drive (something I used to enjoy a lot before) and I couldn’t walk longer than few blocks before it felt like some one would drive a red-hot iron spear through my hip and then continue down the rest of the leg. And to add the insult to irony, it almost makes me want to laugh when during the process of recovery, you end up gaining some weight and your friends come up with ever so popular advice that; maybe you should try some exercises! Gee I wonder why I didn’t think of it?

Newest medical diagnosis suggested that I developed severe hip bursitis, and this was causing the agonizing pain. Personally, I was ready to go with the hip replacement but to make sure this will be proper way to proceed we decided to try some new medication and then cortisone injections to the hip before I go under the knife.

First injection removed the pain for couple of weeks but then the pain returned. Second injection made me pain free for little longer, but it returned. I have purchased third cortisone vial and had scheduled the appointment for the injection with the thought in my head that maybe surgery will be the better way to go.

That was when my wife made the appointment for me with Dr. Surdeep Dhaliwal at Leto Chiropractic. As you refer to my opening statement, you can imagine that at the time I probably was not the easiest patient to work with. But (thank heavens) Dr. Surdeep was patient, his procedures were very thorough, and he wasn’t sugar coating. He showed me his plan of action and stressed that for any change to happen – we both would need to stick to the plan and that the changes won’t happen overnight. Something to effect that this is not a “house of miracles,- for that one might be better off going to the church” but rather a forging house – each session we make a small change and once we start adding it up then we start seeing the results.

The plan made a lot of sense to me and so we started. Soon I discovered that whatever he was doing, had far better and longer lasting effect than I could notice with other medical treatments. So naturally I gained more trust and began to open-up. Eventually, even though I was a little afraid to rock the boat, I decided to share my hip pain burden with Dr. Surdeep. To my surprise he didn’t brush me off. After studying my pains and my joint movements his assessment astound me. He stated that in his opinion it was not a sciatica nerve pain or bursitis pain, but rather a pain caused by crumped deep tissue muscle that pressures the sciatica nerve.

With his treatment and the homework exercises given as a follow up, I decided to stop taking the bursitis pain killing medication to find out if this will really work. After all, I had a cortisone injection appointment scheduled few days away so the worst that could happen (should Dr. Surdeep’s treatment not work) is to be in pain for few days – Something I was used to for years. But what happened next still leaves me in disbelief. First time in a long time, I had a full night sleep – WOW!! Next day I could function without the pain, but I was treading very, very carefully not to provoke it. Third day I agreed to go for a walk with my wife, and I thought this for sure will bring the pain back, but it didn’t, so I walked my wife back home and went for a walk again, this time with a stronger tempo like I used to when I was at my prime.

It was one of the happiest moments of my life; I felt like jumping with joy (and I did some- LOL) on my way back, now I could really walk. Couple of days later I went to the injection appointment, but I decided NOT TO take that cortisone injection shot.

Once I felt this good, I wanted to hang on to that feeling. During the course of following treatments with Dr. Surdeep I did everything he asked to the letter.

Would you believe that now, when I turned 60, I got off medication, I started going to the gym and after few weeks of training I am beginning to enjoy the nearly forgotten feeling of a pump in the muscle tissues and who knows, maybe within next few weeks I might strike a pose and finally look at myself in the mirror – LOL, who would have thought??

So, on that note, a short tip to all those people that were like me – in pain and without the hope. Before you choose any drastic medical treatments, go see Dr. Surdeep Dhaliwal and/or Dr. Kelsey Biola it might just change your life. It sure changed mine.

Thank you for returning my youth back to me Dr. Surdeep,

Forever grateful,
